Description
The Opportunity
There's existing CI infrastructure — and yes, some of it needs untangling. But that's the job, and it's a good one: come in with fresh eyes, figure out what's worth keeping, and build the platform right from here. No politics, no bureaucracy. Just a real mandate to make things better, from architecture to on-call culture, at a company genuinely changing how people navigate one of the hardest things they'll face — losing a job and growing their career.
Thrive partners with employers and service providers to deliver tech-enabled outplacement and career wellness solutions. We move people into meaningful employment, faster. The work matters, and the engineering needs to match.
You'll be Thrive's first dedicated DevOps Engineer. You'll assess what exists, decide what matters, and build a production-grade, secure, and automated platform from the ground up. You'll work alongside a Staff Engineer and Solution Architect with deep infrastructure opinions — but DevOps decisions are yours to make. You'll have direct access to engineering leadership and a genuine relationship with the team, not a ticket queue.
If you want ownership, scope, and the satisfaction of building something that lasts, this is it.
What You'll Own
This role has real breadth — here's what's in your domain:
Cloud Infrastructure
You'll be the person who shapes how Thrive's AWS environment grows. That means setting standards, documenting decisions, and building something the engineering team can actually rely on — not just for today, but as the company scales.
CI/CD & Deployment Automation
There's existing CI in place, and your job is to make it better. You'll assess what's worth keeping, improve what's not, and build toward a release process that's fast, reliable, and low-drama for everyone on the team.
Reliability & Incident Response
You'll own how Thrive detects, responds to, and learns from incidents. That means putting the right observability tooling in place and building on-call processes that are sustainable — not just reactive.
Security & Compliance
Thrive already operates in high-compliance environments with SOC 2, GDPR, and other programs in place. You'll be the technical implementer who helps those programs grow — translating compliance requirements into infrastructure reality and making sure the foundation keeps pace as the business evolves.
The DevOps Function Itself
Beyond the technical work, you'll help shape what DevOps looks like at Thrive — the playbooks, the norms, the way engineering teams interact with infrastructure. You'll have real influence over how this function grows.
What We're Looking For
- 4+ years of hands-on DevOps or platform engineering experience in a cloud-native environment, including time as the primary or sole DevOps owner
- Solid experience designing and managing AWS infrastructure (Fargate, ECS, IAM, networking)
- A track record of building or significantly improving CI/CD pipelines
- Experience owning infrastructure security and implementing compliance needs
- Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform
- Docker and container orchestration at production scale
- GitHub Actions optimization for speed and cost
- Monitoring and observability tooling (Datadog, Grafana, PagerDuty, or similar)
- Experience defining RPO/RTO targets and running disaster recovery testing
- SaaS or high-growth startup background
