The Role:
Weâre looking for a hands-on, strategic Controller to oversee and evolve Thriveâs financial operations and strategy. This is a foundational hire where youâll bring discipline to our financial systems while thriving in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment.
Youâll manage core accounting operations, provide accurate financial reporting, and partner with leadership on planning and long-term strategy. With half of your work coming from the VP of Operations and the other half from our fractional CFO (who will remain onboard), youâll be embedded in all aspects of the business.
This role is perfect for someone who is comfortable with ambiguity, enjoys âscrappyâ environments, and excels at building strong vendor and stakeholder relationships.
What Youâll Do:
- Own and lead the company-wide budget process, collaborating with department leaders.
- Oversee end-to-end accounting operations in QuickBooks Online, including reconciliations, multi-currency invoicing, AR/AP, and monthly close.
- Manage cash flows, deferred revenue tracking, and complex SaaS revenue models.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financials, providing insights for executives, the board, and investors.
- Ensure accurate tax filings (sales tax, payroll, corporate).
- Optimize financial systems and workflows for scale.
- Support fundraising efforts, including due diligence preparation.
- Collaborate closely with the CEO, VP Operations, and fractional CFO on financial planning and forecasting.
Who You Are:
- CPA designation with 3â5 years of progressive financial experience, including 2+ years in public accounting.
- A strategic thinker whoâs also willing to roll up your sleeves on transactional work.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in lean teams.
- Strong communicator, able to translate financial data into clear business insights.
- Skilled in financial modeling, forecasting, and scenario planning.
- Tech-savvy, adaptable, and comfortable with directional changes.
- Bonus: experience in SaaS or professional services, SR&ED claims, or fundraising support.
Why Join Thrive:
- Shape the financial future of a mission-driven SaaS company.
- Work directly with senior leadership on high-impact business decisions.
- Be part of a purpose-driven, award-winning team with a strong and supportive culture.
- Grow your career in a scaling organization with room to make your mark.
Interview Process:
- 30-min HR Screening
- 30-min Hiring Manager Interview (VP Operations)
- Technical Panel Interview (VP Operations + Fractional CFO)
- Final CEO Interview (in-person)
Additional Information:
- Applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Application deadline - October 2nd, 2025
- Thrive is committed to providing an inclusive and accessible recruitment process. If you require accommodation at any stage, please let us know and we will work with you to meet your needs.
